Welcome! We’re glad you are considering ELC as a place to live.
Before you buy or rent a home at ELC, please read the following:
Things you should know:
- We are a self-managed community. We do nearly all the work.
- In order to meet community management and maintenance needs, each adult in the community is expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours of community work each month.
- ELC is a unique community where issues are discussed openly and honestly.
How we can get to know each other:
- Attend at least one monthly general business meeting (2nd Tuesdays, 4th Sundays).
- Attend at least one Sunday common meal and one Tuesday potluck.
- Read our Book of Commons.
- Read Creating Cohousing. Building Sustainable Communities by McCamant, Durrett, and Hertzman.
- Read EcoVillage Ithaca: Pioneering Sustainable Culture by Liz Walker.
- Attend an ELC 101 discussion to learn the basics of life here.
- Spend at least one Saturday or Sunday wandering around our community and talking to the residents.
